Negreanu Falls 99th In Super Circuit Main Event

Daniel Negreanu’s run in the CA$5,000 WSOP Super Circuit Main Event at Playground ended on Day 4, when Chance Kornuth found an ace on the river to win a preflop all-in. Negreanu finished 99th and received $14,500 in the 2,844-entry event.

The key hand came with Negreanu holding pocket tens against Kornuth’s ace-king. Negreanu stayed in front through the turn, but the ace of diamonds on the river ended his Main Event run and pushed Kornuth further up the remaining field.

River Ace Decides the All-In

With 99 players remaining and the big blind at 25,000, Negreanu opened to 50,000 with the ten of diamonds and ten of clubs. Kornuth three-bet to 140,000 with the ace of clubs and king of hearts.

Negreanu moved all in for 725,000, and Kornuth called. The board came five of hearts, six of spades, five of spades, three of clubs, and ace of diamonds, giving Kornuth the winning pair on the final card.

The river completed Kornuth’s six-out draw and sent Negreanu out in 99th place. Until that card, Negreanu’s pocket tens had held through every postflop street, making the hand a sharp example of how thin the margins can be late in a large-field tournament.

Negreanu’s Final-100 Finish at Playground

Negreanu had started Day 4 with 14 big blinds, leaving little room for passive maneuvering. His exit still came after reaching the final 100 players in a field that drew 2,844 entries and generated a reported CA$13,042,800 prize pool.

The CA$5,000 buy-in event carried a reported CA$1,500,000 first-place prize. Negreanu’s $14,500 payout reflected a deep result, though not the extended push toward the final stages he was seeking.

The Kornuth confrontation also had a layer of earlier context. On Day 3, Negreanu had doubled through Kornuth with ace-king against pocket tens, a reversal of the hole-card matchup that later ended his tournament.

Circuit Ring Bid Ends After Bracelet Milestone

The result also closed Negreanu’s attempt to add another WSOP Circuit ring. His most recent Circuit ring came in 2006, while he had won his eighth WSOP bracelet during the summer’s 2026 WSOP.

That made the Playground run a notable follow-up to a successful summer, but not another title finish. Negreanu added a major bracelet milestone earlier in the year, while this Circuit Main Event run stopped at 99th place.

Givens Leads as Kornuth Builds

At publication, 60 players remained in the tournament, with Will Givens leading the leaderboard. Kornuth was reported to have more than 100 big blinds at that point, giving him one of the stronger stacks still in contention.

The CA$1,500,000 first-place prize remained in play for the surviving field, while Negreanu’s tournament was reduced to a decisive river card: an ace that transformed Kornuth’s ace-king into the winning hand.
